FEBRUARY

HORSE RIDING DURING THE CARNIVAL has begun in the time of Vojna Krajina. This tradition is restored and it can be seen in Vinkovci. There are participiants (horse-riders) from all over our county, dressed in traditional costumes, passing through the old parts of Vinkovci – Ervenica and Krnjaš. Some citizens welcome this carnival participants by offering food and drink. Also, in the town centre, the mayor and county-prefect welcome everyone. Association „Vinkovački šokački rodovi“ is the organizer.

WINTER EDITION – is cultural and tourist event, traditionally held since 1994. This is kind of a beauty contest with 12 girls wearing traditional Slavonijan costumes. Every year, one of them becomes the most beautiful one. „Privlačica“ Vinkovci ist the organizer.

CARNIVAL – is actually children’s carnival parade. Also, there’s masquerade, burning of Bušara, and traditional promulgation of a new city mayor for the carnival period.

 

MARCH

DORF is a unique regional festival of documentary musicals. With it’s defined genre enriched with numerous other events, DORF became quickly recognizable in Croatia and neighboring countries.

VINKOVCI’S PUPPET SPRING represents the meetings of foreign and Croatian puppet theaters that enact many plays, organize puppet workshops, exhibitions and promotions. Theatre group „Asser Savus“ from Vinkovci is the organizer.

APRIL

HEALTH FAIR promotes a healthy lifestyle, combines health and non-health sectors and all visitors can participate in seminars, forums, workshops, sports and other activities. A part of the Fair is also the exhibition and sale of domestic food and products. City of Vinkovci is the organizer.

MAY

ACTORS FESTIVAL is held in cities of Vukovarsko-srijemska county since 1994. This in the only festival where actors are in the center of attention. Croatian association of scenic artists from Zagreb and theatrical agency „Asser Savus“ from Vinkovci are organizers.

ETHNO WEEKEND IN ETHNO CITY Competition in the development of ethnic hairstyles and creations and hairstyler and creations inspired by tradition. Culutural centre “Gatalinka“ is the organizer.

ROMAN DAYS in VINKOVCI Visitors have the opportunity not to only discover ceramics, wax tables and Roman cuisine, but also to discover other interesting facts from Roman period. Vinkovci is the only city in the territory of todays’ Republic of Croatian in which were born two Roman emperors – Valentinijan I and Valens. Many historical findings that are kept in the Municipal Museum Vinkovci reveal why Vinkovci stand out among other Roman settlements. Silverware is the treasure of Vinkovci. Silwerware is a proof here lived an extremely important person. Tourist board Vinkovci and the Municipal Museum Vinkovci are organizers.

JULY

CITY DAY – is on 20th of July, on Saint Ilija’s Day, which is also the guardian of Vinkovci. On that occasion various exhibitions, performances, horse rides and book promotions are being held. City of Vinkovci and other institutions and organizations, as well as Tourist Board of Vinkovci are organizers.

AUGUST

COURSE OF PANONIAN ZONE FOLKLORE The purpose of this seminar was the revival and preservation of dance, songs and gigs t that are typical for this area through education. Cultural Center „Gatalinka“ Vinkovci is organizer.

SEPTEMBER

VINKOVCI’S AUTUMN VINKOVCI’S AUTUMN is the biggest festival of folklore in Croatia, which gathers folk groups all over the country. This festival shows the rich Croatian ethnic heritage. City of Vinkovci and city’s Tourist Board are the organizers.

NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF FRUIT BRANDIES AND LIQUEURS is organized to maintain costum manufacture of these drinks. Within Vinkovci’s Autumn is also organized an assessment of fruit brandies and liqueurs. Tourist board of Vukovarsko-srijemska county is the organizer.

NATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF SLAVONIAN KULEN is an event which promotes potential producers of gastronomic specialties of this region – „kulen“, and which awards the existing producers. It’s held within Vinkovci’s Autumn. Association „Slavonijan domestic kulen-kulin“ is the organizer.

ETHNO FASHION SHOW, a review of creations inspired by tradition, is held withing Vinkovci’s Autumn. Organizer is cultural center „Gatalinka“.

OCTOBER

DAYS OF JOSIP AND IVAN KOZARAC are literary and scientific event established in 1995, within which is organized also: laying of wreaths on the graves of Vinkovci writers, Scientific Round Table, literary evening „Živi kapitali“, award for lifetime achievement and for the best book by Slavonijan author, performances by high-school poems of Vinkovci and surroundings called „Poetry morning“. „Privlačica“ Vinkovci is the organizer.
